I’ve already decided back in 2015, that 2016 is going to be a year dedicated to growth; both in myself and my blog.
2015 was a year in which (despite my very best efforts) I tried to put myself first and still feel like I came in second. And no one likes coming in second place, especially when you’re in a race against no one. How does that even work?
That’s not gonna happen again this year.
I’ve already started Project “Make My Blog Amazing!” by getting this brand, spankin’ new theme from Mai on etsy.com (I would design my own site, but, I don’t know the first thing in web design – yet).
As for Project “Make Cassie Even More Amazing” … that’s gonna take a few more
days weeks to fully get control of. But – as a beginning to this project, I’ve decided that it’s time to kick it up a notch and get a few new skills in 2016.
And I love to learn new things – so, win/win. Booya.
Here’s my list of things I want to learn in 2016.
I just bought myself a brand new, really expensive Canon Rebel T5i DLSR camera, so, I figure I should learn a few things about photography. I don’t think I’m horrible at taking photos and I have a decent eye for it, but I’m sure there are things I could learn – proper use of lenses, the right camera settings for different shoot styles, how to properly hold a camera.. you know, really important things. I’m not sure yet if I’ll enroll in a weekly class, or just do some of my own research online; either way, I’m making it my mission to take wicked photos and know why it’s appealing to the eye.
HTML & GRAPHIC DESIGN // VIDEO TUTORIALS & EDITING
I’m not very good at HTML or design – both web or graphic. I know a few of the basics, but I guess if I’m going to be running this blog and making it my business, I need to make learning HTML and graphic/web design my business, too. In addition to Photoshop, I’d love to start playing around with Lightroom and other design programs.
I’d also like to start adding some videos – tutorials of sorts – and that requires knowing how to edit. I’ve got the basics down, simply from editing some self-tape auditions for myself and friends of mine, but now that I’ve got my brand new camera, I get to play around some more and film some fun stuff!
I’m talking about proper meditation – the art of stillness. That shit is hard to do. You can’t just sit in silence for 15-20 minutes, you need to be still and calm, and clear your mind – which is, apparently, something I have trouble doing because my brain is way too hyperactive. But there’s something about being able to clear your thoughts and get in touch with yourself. Focusing all of your energy on yourself is really, really hard to do, but you can benefit greatly if it’s done right; you can reduce stress, anxiety, and find your happy place.
HOW TO PLAY CHESS
stole borrowed this idea from a coworker. Chess is one of those games that I’ve never learned how to play, but it’s always interested me. It seems like a game that requires a lot of thinking and skill – and I always like to be 2 steps ahead of myself, so why not? Seems like something right up my alley.
I know you don’t really “learn” yoga, you “do” yoga. Every couple of months I catch the words “I need to start doing yoga” slip out of my mouth – so why not now? I suppose yoga and meditation somewhat go hand in hand, so if I’m going to be honing my skills on the one, why not add the other one, too? Plus, yoga’s great for flexibility, strength/core training, and even helps reduce stress and anxiety, just like meditation. I really don’t see the downfall to this idea.
So, is anyone I know an expert in any of these things?
Can you play chess? Can you teach me?
How about web design? HTML?
*sigh* Well, 2016, bring it on.
