Let’s just cut to the chase since it’s pretty hard to miss the bright purple hair I’ve got going on!

And NO — this is not an April Fool’s joke, I really dyed my hair bright purple!  And AHHHHH! Is anyone else freaking out at how AH-MAZING it turned out?! No? Just me? Okay.

This wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment thing like people might have thought, it was thoroughly planned out… okay, well maybe not THOROUGHLY since I did do it on a whim, but this was a brewing thought for a while. It’s actually the original reason I started going blonde, and it was finally at a light enough shade for me to pull off this epic purple.

AND I’M IN LOVE.

I know the face doesn’t really prove I love it, but I DO!

(NOT-SO) PRO-TIP: CUT A GARBAGE BAG OPEN AND USE IT AS A CAPE!

I used L’oreal Colorista Semi-Permanent dye in #purplehair, and I was SUPER hesitant at first. For those of you who don’t know the story, I was feeling crazy a few months ago when I had only a few highlights in my hair. I had grabbed one of the indigo dyes, thinking it would be the perfect color to add just a few subtle purple-blue streaks in my hair — I was TOTALLY wrong. Because the dye had a blue-ish tint to it, the blue is what grabbed onto my somewhat lightened hair and STAINED MY HAIR GREEN. I was not okay with this, but luckily my hair was still fairly dark, so it wasn’t noticeable unless I stood directly in the sunlight.

But I was bummed out for sure.

It took a few rounds of bleach to get my hair as blonde as it is (was?) now — so yeah, it’s safe to say that I was scared shitless hesitant to put a bright purple hue in my hair!

BUT OH BABY! ?? Am I ever glad I did!

The dye doesn’t smell, is pre-mixed, ammonia + is basically a hair mask that applies the color while still conditioning your hair. It takes 15-20 minutes (maybe more like 45 in total, with application + rinse out), and then you’ve got fun, unicorn hair!!

L’oreal is also SUPER awesome because they put a solid amount of gloves in the box — which is aaaaamazing, because I had some dye left + plan to use it to help touch up the color after a few washes! I haven’t washed it yet, but I’m curious to see how much it fades in one wash. I will be using fade-preventing shampoo + conditioner, so I’m hoping this color holds out for a lil while.

BEHIND THE SCENES SHOTS

I still catch myself in the mirror and can’t believe I actually did it! Having a fun, funky color in my hair was one of those things I’ve always wanted to do, but never found the right time. But now.. well, I have the feeling that I’ve caught the bug, and once this purple fades out I’ll probably be experimenting with some pink.

What do y’all think?

Pink?

Purple?

A mix of both? My imagination is going crazy!
