Spring/Summer Beauty Body Tune-Up
GUEST POST WRITTEN BY AMY MIA GOLDSMITH
There’s nothing like the warmth of spring and summer to bolster our mood. All the things that felt like a chore during winter now come to us more effortlessly, and we’re a lot more motivated to work on our body and face giving that the bathing suit season is right around the corner. From pampering treatments that will smooth our skin to some fun tricks that you can use to look radiant, it’s time to do a little body tune-up and update our beauty routine.
There are two ways you can exfoliate your body. One is dry brushing, and all you need for it is a body brush made of firm, natural fibers that will help you slough away dead skin cells. Brush all over your body right before you step into the shower and your skin will be smooth and soft. The other way to exfoliate would be a simple sugar scrub that you can easily make at home: mix equal parts granulated sugar and ground coffee beans, and add a few drops of olive oil, or tea tree oil. The sugar will get rid of the rough texture, and the coffee will have some added anti-cellulite benefits and improve your circulation.
Don’t forget the knees, heels, and elbows
If your heels are dry they might need some extra exfoliation, but the skin there can get so rough that nothing short of a heel file will do. Make sure to file away the roughness while you’re in the shower because the water will soften the skin and it’ll make it easier. Now, to really give your dry knees, elbows, and heels the moisture they need, we recommend something like the Lucas PaPaw Ointment, a famed Aussie go-to for dry skin. If you don’t want to splurge, simply petroleum jelly will do. Apply a thick coat to the driest bits on your skin and let it soak in slowly. You’ll see the transformation instantly.
Gorgeous, radiant face
Oh boy, the face is our favorite part. It just feels so luxurious to take care of it, and we love how you can go through the whole process where every single step is aimed at making your face look glowy and nourished. You can start off by steaming your face to open up the pores, and then move on to exfoliation. The Surya Brasil Sapien Women Facial scrub is gentle enough for your face, but you can also go for a more “at-home” chemical peel and use The Good Exfoliating Instant Facial by Juice Beauty. Once you’ve exfoliated, a sheet mask comes next, so use one of the little Sephora facial sheet masks or make a DIY version from at-home ingredients.
Of course, the key thing about face care is that you don’t make it an intermittent thing where you maybe apply a mask every once in a while. It’s about consistent care, and you really need to be regular if you want to see results. Use an SPF protection every day and pay special attention to the kind of foundation you use. You should definitely find something with quality ingredients because a good foundation will cover up your imperfections, but it will also hydrate and let your skin breathe. You don’t want something to clog your pores, so pick high-quality product like the Napoleon Perdis Personal Trainer Serum or similar foundation. If you have particularly oily skin you can use oil blotting sheets to control the shine and set your foundation with a little translucent powder.
Make your hands gloriously soft
Soft, nourished hands are a sign of femininity, and if you want them to look good and make your manicure stand out, then you need to care for them. L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream will do the trick, and if you need an intensive treatment we recommend applying a very thick layer of it and pulling on a pair of cotton gloves. Leave them on for at least an hour or two while you watch a movie (or leave them on overnight). This will really hydrate even the driest of skins.
Hair treatments to bring back the shine
Hair can be a person’s pride and joy if they take good care of it, or it can be an unruly, dry mess that we wish we could cover up. To care for it, again, simply be consistent. We recommend hot oil treatments once a week – it’s an old Indian trick that women use to this day, and we all know how gorgeous and thick their hair is. In addition to that, try not to wash your hair too often even if it’s greasy because that will only stimulate sebum production and make it thin and prone to breakage, and use a good hair mask (Wella FusionPlex Intense Repair Mask is great) after shampooing it with an organic ingredients-based shampoo (John Masters Organics’ Spearmint & Meadowsweet Scalp Stimulating Shampoo works wonders).
We don’t know about you, but these beauty treatments make us feel pretty much like royalty. Enjoy pampering your body and face and see how it transforms you and makes your beauty come through.
